Dule Hill’s Early Life and Career
Dule Hill was born on May 3, 1975, in Orange, New Jersey. He grew up in Sayreville, New Jersey, where his parents, who are of Jamaican descent, raised him. Hill began studying ballet at a young age and learned tap dance when he was three years old.
In 1985, Hill performed a tap dance number to a live orchestra for the Jerry Lewis MDA telethon. When he was ten years old, producers of Broadway’s “The Tap Dance Kid” contacted his dance school in search of young dancers who could also sing and act. Hill won the role of understudy to Savion Glover.
Hill appeared in several national TV commercials as a teenager and had his first film role in 1993 in the movie “Sugar Hill.” He graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School in 1993 and went on to study business finance and acting at William Esper Studio at Seton Hall University.

Dule Hill began his acting career while attending Seton Hall. He landed a role on “CityKids,” a Jim Henson production that aired on ABC Saturday mornings. Hill left college before graduating and appeared in Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk on Broadway. In 1999, he appeared in the popular film, She’s All That.
Hill won the role of presidential aide Charlie Young on The West Wing in 1999. After just one season, the series earned a record-setting nine Emmy Awards and won the prestigious Peabody Award. He stayed with the show for six seasons. Hill chose to leave “The West Wing” before the beginning of the seventh season, but returned for the show’s final few episodes in May 2006.

Dule Hill married Nicole Lyn in July 2004 at Montego Bay’s Round Hill resort. They divorced in 2011 due to irreconcilable differences and had no children together. He then married his “Ballers” co-star Jazmyn Simon in Antigua in 2018 and adopted her daughter Kennedy. The couple welcomed their son, Levi Dule Hill, in May 2019.
During his spare time, Dule Hill enjoys playing poker and supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
