Personal Statement
My name is Colten Thomas, and I'm an AP/IB student at Fort Myers High School, in Fort Myers, Florida (class of 2016) with a 3.82 unweighted GPA and a 30 superscore ACT. Once high school is over my primary goal is to move on to the collegiate level of wrestling, and to further my education at a high level university.
I have been training non stop since season ended and going to every big tournament I can, I have been to Ohio (TOC) 4-2, NHSCA Duals, 4-2 and Disney Duals All Star (7-1). This is 100% what I want to do and hope to find a great stable program so I can elevate to the next level.
I concluded my Junior season with a 37-5 record as a FHSAA 2A State Runner up at 132lbs, Region finalist, District champ, and now 3x County finalist. 3 of my 5 loses were to wrestlers that where either state champions or runner's up this year at states, but at 138. I never saw a round of consis this year, making the finals of every tournament and winning over half of the finals matches following. As always, there is more room to improve every time I step on the mat, but I'm very willing to better myself and make those changes to be the best.
As a freshman, I was a County Champion, District Finalist, Regional Placer and State Qualifier. Then as a 10th grader, my record was 48-6 (at 120lbs) with 31 pins on the year (tying the school record). I was then a 2x County Champion, District Finalist and continued on to place in Regionals and States. I was also All County in cross country both my Freshman and Sophomore year, and was running 6-7 months out of the year as well. At that point, I was at a crossroad; I could only pursue one sport at a high and fully dedicated level as an upperclassman. I decided to devote all my time to wrestling, and have never regretted it. That Summer I won the Super 32 regional Qualifier, Megatron Orlando and went 3-2 at Super 32.
I hope to find the best fit, in the wrestling room and classroom, to continue to improve and do what I love while going to a school that I equally love. If given the chance, I would make the absolute best of any opportunity given to me to succeed.
