Catherine Beatrice Weaver was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Willie Eli King and Gladys Beatrice King. Catherine made her transition to rest on July 14, 2021, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Catherine was affectionately known by many as “Cat” and had a presence that could light up a room. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, she enjoyed being a cheerleader and marching in parades through downtown Norfolk.
Upon graduation, she furthered her education at Norfolk State University and Tidewater Community College where she pursued a nursing curriculum. From an early age, Catherine knew her purpose was to provide comfort to others. This passion motivated her to diligently serve in the nursing field for over 40 years in various healthcare settings, including Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and DePaul Hospital.
Catherine’s greatest joy in life was her family. As the eldest sister, she led her younger siblings to St. Thomas AME Zion Church each Sunday when they were children. She was best friends with her mother and mastered her mother’s recipe for her famous stuffing and dinner rolls. Through their lifelong bond, she inspired her mother to pursue her own passions and sense of adventure. Catherine loved the holidays and spending time with her family. She was a proud mother and especially enjoyed becoming a grandmother. She treasured her time with her grandchildren and always shared how proud she was of their achievements and her excitement for where they were going in life. She loved watching them grow up and appreciated that some chose the family path into the nursing field.
Catherine was a conqueror, a fighter, a provider, and a protector. She loved the life she lived and will be missed by many.
Catherine was married to Columbus Weaver and is the mother to Zachary Weaver, Brian Weaver, Marcus Weaver, Carlton Weaver, Reginald Weaver, James Harris, Latonya Weaver, and Latrina Mathews (Bobby). She leaves behind 17 grandchildren and one great-granchild. She is the sister of Jacob King (Deborah), Wilhelmina Armstead (Don), Jacqueline Hamlett (Josh), and Ricky King, Sr. (Michelle). Catherine will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Sheila Butts and Teresa Williams.
